Karl Malone

John Stockton

The Utah Jazz might appear to have a strange team name, but that?s because the franchise began play in 1974 as the New Orleans Jazz, and for whatever reason decided to keep the name when they moved to Salt Lake City in 1979.? The franchise has been in the postseason 23 times in their history, with no championships to their name, though they did lose to Michael Jordan?s Bulls in the finals twice in the late ?90?s.? Here is a short list of the Jazz? all-time leading scorers to date:

Karl Malone (36,374)?Forward Karl Malone, nicknamed ?The Mailman? because ?he delivers,? is one of the game?s all-time greats, and he ranks second all-time in scoring behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in NBA history.? Naturally, Malone leads the Jazz all-time as well with 36,374 points while playing for them from 1985 to 2003.? Malone scored over 2000 points an astounding twelve times, and his best season was 1989-90, when he scored a career best 2540 points (31 per game).? That season, Malone also led the NBA in free throws (696) and free throw attempts (913), and also had a career best .562 field goal percentage.?

John Stockton (19,711)?Guard John Stockton played for the Jazz his entire career, from 1985 to 2003, and teamed up with Malone to be one of the best 1-2 punches in NBA history.? Stockton ranks second in Jazz history with 19,711 points and he was steady, scoring over 1000 points eleven times, but led the NBA in assists nine times.? Stockton?s best season was 1990-91, when he scored a career high 1413 points (17 per game) and added a career best 1164 assists (an NBA record).? Stockton is also the NBA?s all-time leader with 15,806 assists.?

Adrian Dantley (13,635)?Forward/guard Adrian Dantley played for the Jazz from 1979 to 1986, and over that time racked up 13,635 points to rank third in franchise history.? Dantley had his best seasons in Utah, scoring over 2000 points for them four times, twice leading the NBA in total points scored (1980-81 and 1983-84).? But his best season was 1981-82, when he had a career high of 2457 points (30 points per game), which did not lead the league that year.? Dantley also hit a league best 648 free throws that season.?

Darrell Griffith (12,391)?Guard Darrell Griffith played for the Jazz his entire career, from 1980 to 1991, and he ranks fourth in the team?s history with 12,391 points scored.? Griffith scored over 1500 points five times, and his best season was 1984-85, when he tallied 1764 points (23 per game), and led the league with 92 three-point field goals.?

Thurl Bailey (9897)?Forward/center Thurl Bailey played for the Jazz most of his career, from 1983 to 1992, and then again in 1998-99.? Bailey ranks fifth in franchise history with 9897 points, and his best season was 1987-88, when he scored a career high 1604 points (20 points per game).?
