Career Change - New Jobs For Formerly Jobless Not Bringing Happiness

Most people affected by today's economy are happy, sincerely grateful, to retain employment. Those who lost jobs would seemingly be thrilled to have found replacement work. Turns out, it's not true.

A recent U.S. study about workers displaced by the recession shows that the sacrifices made to stay employed have not yielded happy campers. In many cases, switching careers necessitated a downsize in quality of life.

"In many cases, these people are not very happy," per Cliff Zukin, public policy professor at Rutgers. "They're the winner who got new jobs, but they're not really what they want and not where they want to be."

New Jobs for the formerly jobless are not bringing happiness. Is there an alternative career change that could?

Most of those in the work sector who were forced to switch jobs which resulted in a serious pay cut. That adds to the dissatisfaction of having daily engagement in unfulfilling work. Add the reduction in benefits for many and the picture is more dismal. One worker in the study described his new work as "soul sucking" yet he perseveres to support his family. He feels that there is no other option.

Perhaps there is. While many state employment offices advise that it is not likely for an unemployed individual to find work using the same skill set from their former job, one possibility could embrace your prior experience and skill set. Go online.

I hate the cliche recommending that you "think outside of the box" but that's what this consideration involves.

If you enjoy sales, there is a place for you online. If you like meeting new people, there is a place for you online. If you are creative, there is a place... If you are willing to learn a few 'new tricks' to augment your experience and supplement your skill set, there is a place...

First, consider what is linking you to that 'soul sucking' existence. Fear? Responsibility? Schedule?

The beauty of an online business is that it can respond to these concerns and others.

So what's stopping you from leaving the lackluster existence of your daily grind?

If it's limited resources for investment, there are business opportunities that allow you to sample the programs for less than $100/month. You can earn income while you are trying out the program, pocket the income or invest fully into the business once you have had the benefit of first hand experience and feel secure.

So now what's stopping you? The traditional new jobs for the formerly jobless are soul sucking and abysmal. Your life is worth more than that. You deserve happiness in your life but you have to bring it--to yourself.

Today's workplace continues to evolve, becoming more mobile and individualized. Employers are looking for savvy professionals with a can-do attitude, determination and motivation to meet their needs. Tighter job markets require you to have a plan for career accomplishments.

Following is the last of three articles summarizing "101" career books published by Course Technology. A different author highlights what it takes to achieve professional success in the 21st century for each book. Here, it's businesswoman and educator, Carol A. Silvis. Her book is entitled 101 Ways To Make Yourself Indispensable at Work.

For over two decades, Silvis has trained adults in how to get a job, keep and enjoy it and get ahead. She has a master's degree in Adult Education and is an associate director and department chair at a prominent business institute. School days are one of the best days in one's life. One is not burdened with responsibility and has only one job to do - study and get good grades. As one advances into adult age, thinking of a career gets imperative. Because today the education arena has developed so far that training begins right after matriculation.

For instance graphic designing, gardening, bachelors in management studies, bachelors in mass media and many more are options one can immerse into just after school. If one opts to regular college, then after 2 years again there is sea of options. Engineering, medicine, management studies, clinical studies and so on. As these careers need a 10+2 education.

After graduating from a normal college that is 10+5 in India, one then has to make a decision as to which career he or she needs to plunge in. There are many careers that need a graduation as a minimum requirement these days.

But as a smart student like most of the new millennium, you should think of your career when you are in school itself. Make a case study of the various options available. Understand the market scenario. Just do not pick a career because your neighbour or your friend is doing so. Do your groundwork. There is a sea of knowledge you can dig into that is available on the internet books and the best source is your folks at home and your teachers.

If you are really interested they will help you dig and understand your personality and the job that will be best for you. For instance if you are an extrovert and love to travel then a desk job will bore you. You cannot be a librarian or an indoor worker. You would be good as a marketing person or a sales person. If you are good with people and love to be around new people and make new friends look into the Human Resources career. It would pacify you and keep you there.

Unlike people who jump jobs and careers because they are not happy with what they do. Hence understand your personality and you will be able to understand the career you want.

A legal system exists in every civilized society to safeguard people's rights, interest, their life and property. To run the system successfully there needs people who can understand the laws, interpret and explain them to the common people. There comes the role of lawyers.

Career as a lawyer has always been a respectful option in the civilized societies in the world. An advocate is one who speaks on behalf of another person, especially in a legal context. He is licensed to practice law, learned in the law; as an attorney, counsel or solicitor; Lawyer profession involves the practical application and knowledge of acts, rules, statutes and laws of the land to solve people's problems, or to advance the interests of those who hire lawyers to perform legal services. The role of the lawyer varies significantly across legal jurisdictions.

In today's rapidly changing world progress and development have been made almost in every profession. It results creation of large number of opportunities for individuals. Legal profession has no exception. Law jobs in Pakistan can be seen in national dailies regularly. In the legal profession, lawyers have many options over the course of their careers. Besides private practice, they can always aspire to becoming a district attorney on division level, assistant district attorney on district level. Jobs for lawyers are offered as Advocate General in the High courts and as attorney General in the Supreme Court. Many other career opportunities for lawyers are also available in legal profession like public prosecutor, government counsel, corporate in-house counsel, administrative law judge, judge, arbitrator, law professor, or politician. A large organization offers jobs as legal advisor and lucrative remuneration is offered for the job. In developing countries like India and Pakistan, a large majority of law students never actually practice, but simply use their law degree as a foundation for careers in other fields. Lawyers generally structure their legal education around their chosen specialty; the boundaries between different types of lawyers are carefully defined and hard to cross. After one earns a law degree, career mobility may be severely constrained. The legal profession is not rigorously bifurcated and everyone within it can easily change roles and arenas.

In many countries, lawyers are general practitioners who take almost any kind of case that walks in the door. In others, there has been a tendency since the start of the 20th century for lawyers to specialize early in their careers. In countries where specialization is prevalent, many lawyers specialize in representing one side in one particular area of the law.

Personal development always helps organizational development. As every individual behavior adds to the organizational behavior, desire of personal development of every individual also adds to the overall development of the organization. The following techniques will help you to encourage self-development in your subordinates.

Use questionnaires and instruments to encourage self-awareness, reflection, and new experiences which test people out and awaken their curiosity and desire to learn. ? Reward learning and success, even though small, so that people feel how good it is to grow and develop. ? Encourage employees to plan about their short, medium and long term goals and alternatives ? Employees should be encouraged to record their own personal achievements at work and outside, and to measure the attainment of their goals. ? Personal and career development includes choice as well as planning. Ensure they have information about openings and alternatives available to them. ? Help them to plan their own development and let them try various activities to broaden their horizon and help them to identify the way and direction they wish to develop. ? Self-Management is the highest art of Management. Help them to develop their self-management techniques.

Personal development leads to personality development. This will help them to lead by example and enjoy the hard earned achievements with self-awareness and self-control which enhances their self-respect and self-confidence.

Exploring career choices can sometimes feel like a balancing act. On one hand, it's very unreasonable to think you're supposed to have it all figured out in your teens and early 20s, when most people are under the most pressure to make a career decision. At the same time, you can let yourself get trapped in a cycle of indecision, fear of change, and procrastination to where you put off what you'd love to do in favor of something that does really fit.

Many times people don't know where to start. A good place to begin is to set aside some time to focus only on career ideas. Grab a notebook, get a soda or a cup of coffee at a relatively quiet restaurant (or any place where you can get away and think), and begin brainstorming and writing ideas of what you want your life to look like within the next 5-10 years.

You also want to write down what you love to do and how those activities can be turned into either a job or self-employed business. See how you can combine different interests into a niche career that would be special and important to you. Once you have a direction, you can begin finding ways of moving toward what you want and away from the things that won't help you.

I did all of these steps at 19 years old, and it is amazing what you can do in life when you learn how to focus and develop your dream. Your plans may change over time, but you can always repeat the process above any time you're at a crossroads and want to change something that isn't working for you.

Finding a mentor or mentors is important as well. Having successful people in your life pulls you to wanting to do more in life, regardless if the mentor is in your career field or not. A lot of success principles carry over to life in general, and it's helpful to have role models and examples in your life.

The final tip I have is to never stop being willing to learn something new and pursue where new ideas take you. If you're interested in a particular job or business, try to absorb as much information as you could be well prepared if you wanted to transition into the field.

This process does work. I was a psychology and broadcasting major in college, which did help me. I kept learning outside of formal education however about subjects like business, writing, and online marketing. I'm now making a significantly higher income than most people my age and am on the verge of being able to "retire" to write full-time in my mid-20s without needing a day job.

It still takes work, and there's no secret formula to replace that. It's just knowing how to focus your efforts in ways that will help you the most and get you in the position to do what you love. Good luck and best wishes to you!

If you'd rather skip the skin aspect, you can become a hair removal specialist, performing a variety of hair removal techniques.

Hair

Hair Stylist. Becoming a hair stylist is usually the main goal for most cosmetology students. Being a hair stylist means more than just knowing how to shampoo and cut hair, though. Hair stylists need to be well trained in curling, relaxing, coloring, cutting, shaping, cleaning, repairing and styling hair for both men and women.

Barber. Barbering is the only area of cosmetology that focuses exclusively on men. A barber needs to know much more than just how to cut men's hair. He needs to know how to remove, trim and shape facial hair. He also needs to know how to care for men's skin.

Nails

Manicurist. If you want to work with nails, you need to go to a cosmetology school to become a manicurist. A manicurist is the least versatile career in cosmetology, but this service is still in demand. Manicurists must know how to clean, shape and finish real nails. They must also know how to prepare, apply, clean, shape and finish fake nails.

Selanne ranks first in Ducks? history with 362 goals scored and counting, and while he had his career best 76 goals while with the Winnipeg Jets, he has had five seasons in Anaheim with 40 or more goals.? Selanne?s career best with Anaheim was 52 goals in 1997-98, but his best overall season for the Ducks was 1996-97, when he scored 51 goals, and added 58 assists for 109 total points.

Paul Kariya (300)?Left wing Paul Kariya began his career in Anaheim and played there from 1994 to 2003.? Kariya ranks second in franchise history with 300 goals, and he scored 30 or more for them six times.? Kariya?s best season was 1995-96, when he had a career high 50 goals, and added 58 assists for 108 total points (also career best).?

Steve Rucchin (153)?Center Steve Rucchin played most of his career for the Ducks, from 1994 to 2004, and he ranks third in team history with 153 goals.? The availability of high quality employees has been recognised worldwide as the prime means for businesses in all industries to add value and gain competitive advantage in organisations and the marketplace. In response to this, Government and private institutions have created strategies, such as the New Zealand Tourism Workforce Strategy, to not only increase the appeal of the industry itself to potential employees, but to create logical pathways for those entering the industry, from education to career progression.

The fact that tourism is the world's largest and fastest growing industry creates increasing pressure for businesses in the industry to have access to highly qualified applicants. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council, the activities of hiring, orientating, integrating, rewarding and retaining employees are the businesses key to success. Therefore, education will play a pivotal role in providing suitably qualified hospitality and tourism workers, which will form the base of future growth and productivity.

With higher educated personnel, the high employee turnover rate can be reduced. The effect of such turnover rates on businesses is profound, having a significant impact upon the productivity and profits of the organisation. Simply the costs of hiring and training new staff can be disabling. There is industry recognition that the tourism and hospitality industry requires to attract and retain highly qualified personnel to remain competitive. As a result, owners and managers of such businesses are faced with the realisation that educated and high performing employees must be rewarded and be presented with a clear and concise career pathway. This is creating new opportunities in the industry for those who have the necessary skills and qualifications behind them.

The relationship between hospitality educators, the industry and the student has become the focus of much research lately. Bucyk ranks first in Bruins? history with 545 goals and his best season was 1970-71.? That year, Bucyk racked up career highs in goals (51), assists (65) and total points (116).? He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1981.?

Phil Esposito (459)?Center Phil Esposito might be best known by some for his playing days with the New York Rangers, but he played for Chicago and Boston before that.? Esposito was with the Bruins from 1967 to 1976 and ranks second in franchise history with 459 goals.? Esposito did have his best years in Boston, including his best season of 1970-71.? That year, he led the NHL with a career high 76 goals, adding 76 assists for 152 total points (also career best).?

Rick Middleton (402)?Right wing Rick Middleton played most of his career in Boston, from 1976 to 1988.? He ranks third in Bruins? history with 402 goals, and Middleton had a career high 51 goals in 1981-82.? But his best overall season was probably 1983-84, when Middleton scored 47 goals and added 58 assists for a career best 105 points.

Raymond Bourque (395)?Defenseman Raymond Bourque played most of his career with the Bruins, from 1979 to 2000.? Bourque is highly regarded as one of the best defensemen ever but he also ranks fourth in team history with 395 goals in a Bruins? uniform.? Bourque?s best season was 1983-84, when he had a career high 31 goals, adding 65 assists for 96 total points (also a career best).?

Cam Neely (344)?Right wing Cam Neely played for the Bruins most of his career, from 1986 to 1996, and ranks fifth in franchise history with 344 goals.? Neely?s best season was 1989-90, when he helped the Bruins reach the Stanley Cup Finals with a career high 55 goals, adding 37 assists for a career best 92 total points.

There are six stages of modern career development: Assessment, Investigation, Preparation, Commitment, Retention, and Transition. Learning the characteristics of each stage will empower you to navigate through each stage easily and with more confidence.

In the Assessment Stage, you are getting ready for your life's work. This stage is characterized by unawareness, in that you are not sure what your values, strengths, and weaknesses are. You start to feel like you want to know more about yourself and make a conscious effort to get in touch with who you really are.

Key characteristics:

In the Investigation Stage, you are researching what work exists in the world. This stage is characterized by feelings of confusion, in that you are not sure what career options exist for you. You may feel overwhelmed with all of the different jobs and opportunities that exist as you begin the process of researching the modern world of work. But if you approach this stage with a positive frame of mind, you will find that you will learn about many possibilities you may have never considered.

Key characteristics:

In the Preparation Stage, you are still getting ready to do your life's work. This stage is characterized by feelings of excitement, as you think of how wonderful it will be to perform meaningful work. However, there is still much work to be done, and in order to be successful, you have to be prepared.

Key characteristics:

In the Commitment Stage, you will feel confident, in that you have figured out what you are meant to do. Sometimes people have known all along what they were meant to do, but were not able to commit to the process of making it happen, for whatever reason. Models have to smile a lot and clients will not want to work with someone with an unattractive dental formula. Keep your pearly whites as they should be; white and pearly!

Always act as a professional. Avoid being tardy and throwing tantrums. Nobody wants to work with someone who is difficult in any industry! This is even more so in the modeling industry because there is always a flood of fresh talent. You could be replaced before you could even say the word "tantrum"! Try to be pleasant always. When a client has a lovely experience working with you, chances are they will call you specifically for repeat jobs. You never know, you may even end up being a designer's muse. This would be guaranteed work for even four seasons!
